Louis F. Righi, 76, of Rose St, died Tuesday, March 5, at Eden Park Healthcare Center after a long illness.
Mr. Righi was born September 13, 1925 in Cobleskill and was the son of Giuseppi and Albina (Ragnetti) Righi.
He attended Cobleskill Center Schools until enlisting in the Navy in 1943. Serving in WWII, he was awarded the
“Victory medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal 3 Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon 2 Stars.”
Mr. Righi was the proud recipient of his high school diploma in the recent New York State government’s recognition
of enlisted persons who served their country during WWII in lieu of their High School graduation.
Mr. Righi worked with the Righi Brothers Construction Company until 1971. He worked as a police officer for many
years with the Village of Cobleskill Police Dept. Retiring in 1988 at the rank of sergeant.
He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, serving as collection usher and working the Bingo
nights held in the church hall. He was also a member of the Volunteer Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Dept., VFW
Post 5088, American Legion Fred L. Stilson Post 57, and the American Veterans of Schoharie County Post 175.
He will always be remembered as a loving, caring and supportive husband and father as well as a true friend to
many.
Mr. Righi is survived by his wife, Gladys Wilson Righi, whom he married on April 6, 1947; his children, Mary and
Norm St Germain of Merrimack, NH, Joan and Robert Van Buren of Cobleskill, Kathleen Righi and Mike Mitchell of
Malta, John Righi of Madison, OH, Michael and Karen Righi of Cobleskill; granddaughters, Tara Righi and Michelle
Mau of Cobleskill; grandsons, Benjamin Righi of Cobleskill and Daniel Righi of Ohio; three sisters, Nilda Rokjer of
Cobleskill, Marie Patterson of Richfield Springs and Dolores O’Shea of Amsterdam, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 8 at 11am St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church,
Washington Heights, Cobleskill, with the Rev. Thomas F. Berardi as celebrant. Calling hours will be Thursday, March
7 from 5 to 8pm at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St, Cobleskill.
Burial will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Cobleskill.
